Just Us Girls Color Week Challenge

Hello there my crafty friends and thank you for stopping by! Today I am showing you how I made my card for the new Just Us Girls Color Week Challenge. Initially I wasn’t going to do this challenge because I wasn’t inspired but after talking to my best friend about it, I figured that I had to at least try and I’m so glad I did. It’s not the most complex card I’ve ever done but sometimes, simpler is better. As you can see above the challenge colors are Turquoise, Kraft, and White. Let me show you what I did!

First I started off creating my background. I used my Ken Oliver Color Burst in Turquoise for the background. I sprinkled it liberally around my piece of Strathmore Hot Press Watercolor Paper. I then sprayed it first with my Distress Sprayer that is filled with just plain water. I waited about a minute and then I went in with a shimmer spray that I had made. I got a spray bottle, filled it with water and then took my White Perfect Pearls and put a few scoop fulls of that into the water. I then put the top back on a shook it up. Then I sprayed it onto my background to give a bit of added shimmer because, why not?

While I waited for that to dry, I worked on my sentiments. For the inside of the card I used a sentiment from the CZ Designs Simple Sentiments 02 stamp set. I stamped it using my Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink. If you’ve been reading for any amount of time, you’ll know that the Versafine ink is my go to for when I need to stamp in black. I decided I wanted a second sentiment on the front aside from the one I was going to die cut. I got out my Clearly Besotted ‘So Much To Say’ stamp set to use. I took a spare strip of cardstock I had lying around and stamped the sentiment with my Lawn Fawn ‘Merman’ premium dye ink.

Once the Color Burst panel was fully dry (I also hit it with my heat tool to be safe) I used my Fiskars Wire Trimmer and cut the panel down to 3 3/4″ x 5″. I then took my “hello” die and cut that out of Simon Says Stamp white glitter cardstock and then I took the shadow of the hello and cut that out of the Color Burst panel. I then took my 1/4″ Scor Tape and lined the panel with it. I then took the backing off and lined it up in the center of my kraft card base.

To attach the ‘Hello’ sentiment, I used my favorite Ranger Multi Medium Matte liquid glue. I then cut a little flag in my sentiment strip and put 1/4″ Scor Tape on the back of the strip and layed it right below the ‘hello sentiment. I had trimmed the piece down before attaching it to the card.

I then took a piece that I had cut off of the front panel and decided to put it on the inside of the card. I put my Simon Says Stamp Craft Tacky Glue on the back of the strip and then lined it up on the bottom of the inside of the card. I then trimmed off whatever was left hanging off.

Here is the final product. I can’t wait to send it out to someone or sell it on Etsy, whichever happens first. At first I didn’t want to make a card but once I got into the groove and had a clear design in my head, there was no stopping. I like the added sentiment strip on the front of the card. I feel that it pulls everything together.
