Just Us Girls Trend Week Challenge

Hello my crafty friends, and thanks for stopping by! Today I’m sharing the card I made for this week’s Just Us Girls Trend Week Challenge which is all about frames. I decided since Father’s Day is this weekend I would make a father’s day card with the current challenge in mind. If you have made father’s day cards, I would love to see them- feel free to leave a link to them in my comments! Let’s jump into the card!

I started with a piece of 5×7 Strathmore Hot Press Watercolor paper. I placed it into my makeshift splat box (an old Amazon shipping box) and tapped on two Ken Oliver Color Bursts. I used the colors Cerulean Blue and Turquoise along with Nuvo Shimmer Powder in Green Parade. Once I had all of the powders sprinkled, I hit it hard with my Distress Sprayer and created the paper you see above.

Next, I cut down the watercolored paper once it was dry to standard A2 size (4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″). I then took a flag frame die I had (I can’t recall the brand) and cut a flag from from a piece of white shimmer/satin paper. There will be stitching on the outside of the flag and on the inside of the flag.

I took my 1/4″ Scor Tape and lined the flag. I then also took my 1/2″ Scor Tape and lined the back of my panel. I then attached both pieces to a top folding, A2 sized card base.

I then plopped my card into my MISTI and I lined up my sentiment from The Ink Road Stamps on the card and then I closed the lid, transferring the stamp to the clear lid. Next I took my Anti Static Powder Bag and wiped down the entire inside of the flag where the stamp was going to be stamped. I inked up the stamp with my Versamark Embossing ink and closed the lid. I stamped the sentiment twice to be sure I got a good impression because, even though it’s hot press, there is still some texture to the paper. I then took my card out of my MISTI and sprinkled Ranger Fine Detail Siver Embossing Powder over the sentiment, tapping the rest back into my container. I then heat set the sentiment with my Wagner heat tool.

I use Sistema containers to store my most used embossing powders- fine detail gold, fine detail silver, fine detail white, fine detail black, regular white, regular clear holographic, anc clear both regular and fine detail. I learned to store my embossing powder that way because of Jennifer McGuire.

Next I did the inside of my card. I used the ‘Mom and Dad’ stamp set from Avery Elle. I lined them up in my MISTI (again) and stamped them using my Versafine Onyx Black ink. I’m glad I used my MISTI because I had to stamp the sentiment three times to get it as solid as I wanted.

Here is the finished card. I wanted the sentiment to take center stage which is why I put the frame around it and didn’t add anymore more embellishments. What do you think? I always have fun when I use the Color Burst powders, you never know what you’re going to get!
