Just Us Girls Photo Week Challenge

Hello there, my crafty friends and welcome back or if you’re new, hello! It’s Tuesday which means I am sharing with you the card I made for the current Just Us Girls Card Challenge and this week is Photo Week. In the blown up version of the picture, I could see that all of the shapes were fish which inspired what I stamped and made. I strayed a bit from the colors but I did try to use each of the colors (red, yellow, orange, and blue) at least once on the card. Let me show you how I made it!

First, I stamped the sitting mermaid from the MFT ‘Mermazing’ stamp set. I liner her up in such a way that I could put the rock from the stamp underneath her so it looks like she’s sitting on it. To make that work, I stamped the mermaid a second time onto Simon Says Stamp Masking Paper. Before I cut that out, I stamped the octopus from the Simon Says Stamp ‘Tent- Cuddles’ stamp set. I wanted to stamp as much as possible at one time before I had to move on. I stamped everything on this card with my Versafine Onyx Black ink.

Next, I fussy cut out my little mermaid, stuck her to the card and then stamped the rock. I love removing masking paper because it’s like magic! I then added a turtle and two things of seaweed to the card. I forgot to mention, all of these images are stamped onto Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper. It’s my favorite paper to color on with my colored pencils.

Next I colored everything. I colored the mermaid, turtle, rock, seaweed and sand with my Prismacolor Premier pencils. The octopus and the water were colored using my Wanshui colored pencils. Click here to read my review of these pencils. To get rid of all of the streaks the colored pencils left behind with the water, I used my Gamsol and a blending stump. I ran it over the blue to blend everything and give it a nice smooth look.

Once everything was colored, I added 1/2″ Scor Tape to the back of the panel and then attached it to the front of my card base. I then took a sentiment from the ‘Mermazing’ stamp set and stamped it with my Versafine Onyx Black ink. I felt that the inside needed a bit of decoration, so I added another mermaid to the inside of the card. I stamped the mermaid with my Distress Oxide Ink in Tumbled Glass. It’s to the side so you can avoid writing on it if you want or you can write on it because it’s light enough that it won’t interfere with a dark ink.

Here we have the final result! I was so inspired by all of the fish in my picture, I’m so happy with how it turned out. I heat embossed the sentiment on the front with silver glitter embossing powder from Michael’s Recollection brand. Big shocker, though, I didn’t use any bling or sequins! I really wanted the images to speak for themselves.
