Umbrella Girl Card

Hello my crafty friends and welcome back. I’m sharing a card today that I created with the April Simon Says Stamp card kit. It came with some gorgeous paper and a cute 4×6 stamp set with an Umbrella Girl. I had never tried paper piecing until I got this stamp set. I made one card the moment I got the card kit and now I’ve made another to share with you, I hope you like it!

First I took the stamp and put it into my MISTI. I then stamped the Umbrella Girl onto a piece of Strathmore Smooth Bristol paper using Ranger Archival Ink in Jet Black and then I stamped just the umbrella onto one of the rainbow pieces of paper that came in the kit. The paper has a glossy/satin finish so I stamped the umbrella part using StazOn Ink in Jet Black. This way it wouldn’t get smeared when I cut it out.

I wanted the only color on the card to be the umbrella so I took my Prismacolor Pencils and colored the rest of the image using only grey and black pencils from the set. I did this because I think it really sets the umbrella apart from the rest of the image. I stuck with the warm grey’s because I felt the cool grey’s didn’t look right with the umbrella.

I then took my Cutter Bee scissors and cut out the umbrella top. I cut outside the lines that way it would fit right over top of the umbrella on the Bristol. Since I used the StazOn, none of the ink smeared as I was handling the paper to cut it out.

I then did something slightly out of character for me, I didn’t use my Scor Tape to tape down the umbrella top. Instead I used my Nuvo Liquid glue and put it onto the back of the umbrella and laid it down on top of the other stamped one.

Don’t worry, I didn’t stray far. As soon as I had the umbrella glued down and dried, I flipped the cardstock over and applied my 1/2″ Scor Tape to the back of the card and then I attached it to an A2 Card base.

Once everything was attached, I took my Versamark and the word ‘Friend’ from the stamp set and stamped it onto the bottom right of the card. I then sprinkled Ranger Gold Fine Detail Embossing Powder over top and then heat set it with my Wagner Heat Tool. I then took another sentiment from the set and stamped that directly below using my Versafine Onyx Black Ink.

As a finishing touch, I took my Simon Says Stamp Stay Gold sequins and placed them around the card. Once I got them where I wanted, I glued them all down using my Ranger Multi Medium Matte glue. This is my favorite glue of all time, it’s strong and dries matte so you don’t really notice it if you get some where you don’t want it to go.

This is the final card. I did use a very light, almost white, blue for the raindrops that fell on the white cardstock. The gold sequins really amped up the card to the next level, in my opinion. What do you think of the card?
