April Crafty Favorites

Hello my crafty friends and thank you for stopping by today! Today I decided I would try something a little different. I always do posts like this every month on my makeup blog and I thought I would give it a try here- a monthly favorites post! I would love to know what you’ve been loving in your craft area this month, be sure to leave it down below!

I’ve been loving playing around with my alcohol inks this month and I’ve been drifting towards the colors Turquoise, Mermaid, and Patina. I’ve also been loving the Pearl Mixative and I’ve practically used up my Alcohol Blending Solution*. I find making alcohol backgrounds to be very relaxing. I was apparently in a ‘blue’ mood this month because I made about five backgrounds using these colors and the mixative. If you’ve never tried alcohol ink, I definitely suggest giving it a go! I’ve been using alcohol inks for about a year and I’ve finally hit a point where I need to start repurchasing the colors I love.

I discovered these two pieces through an Instagram ad of all things! These products are from an Etsy shop called MakeItbyMarko. The pink thing is one of her stamp shammy holders. I find that my Lawn Fawn stamp shammy doesn’t dry out as quickly when I put it away in this little box. Don’t worry about mold, though. The hard plastic bottom is open with a design swirled around to hold you shammy in but not completely incase it. The other product you see is one of her large tier glue holder. She has it in a rainbow of colors including a rainbow! This is my absolutely most favorite piece of crafting gear that isn’t a stamp or die. It has made using my liquid glues so much easier, no more shaking forever to get the glue to make it’s way to the tip of the bottle.

I’ve got a few products here. I’ve been using my 1/2″ Scor Tape* like water, I went through an entire roll this past month and this is roll number two. It is the strongest dry adhesive I have ever used, once it’s down it’s not coming up unless you wish to ruin your project. I’ve linked to the bundle that I buy the most because it’s got 1/8″, 1/4″, and 1/2″. I’ve also been enjoying my Simon Says Stamp Craft Tacky Glue, I had never used it since it came in one of my Simon Says Stamp card kits. It is a great adhesive, I’ve been using it a lot with my sequins and jewels because it has a nice narrow tip and the glue has great hold. How could I not do a favorites and not mention my Ek Success Cutter Bee scissors*. They are some of the sharpest pairs of scissors I own. I find them to be absolutely perfect to fussy cut any image I have too. They’ve got a nice pointed tip making it easy to get into those little nooks and crannys. Another bonus is that they are under $10 to get! Then, of course, there’s Versafine Onyx Black*. This is my favorite black ink. It is a pigment ink but it’s fast drying so you can use it with water mediums along with colored pencils. The only thing I ran into is that you cannot use it with Copics or Gamsol blending solution. The Gamsol will smear the ink if you touch it. It gives me a good impression with any stamp I use and I find I don’t have to double or triple stamp as much when I use this ink because it is so solid.

Unfortunately I can’t seem to find this anywhere online but it’s a Gorjuss Girl self healing cutting mat and craft knife. I bought it a few years ago and it is one of the best purchase I have ever made. I use the craft knife every day and this pad is great for lining things up straight because of the 1/4″ gridlines and it’s great to stamp on top of too! I would suggest getting a cutting mat to craft on because it’s is a nice and versatile piece of equipment.

There are three stamp sets I haven’t been able to put down this month: Simon Says Stamp ‘Look for the Rainbow’ stamp set, Simon Says Stamp ‘Stronger Together’ stamp set, and the Hero Arts Monthly card kit from February 2020. The ‘Stronger Together’ set is especially perfect for the current climate, it’s a great set to make cards to send to your friends and family while we’re all still quarantined. The sentiments and flowers in the ‘Look for the Rainbow’ set can work hand in hand nicely with the ‘Stronger Together’ stamp set. The Hero Arts stamp set was the first My Monthly Hero kit that I had bought in a long time and I am so glad I did, it’s become one of my most used stamp sets this month.

I love my Prismacolor Premier colored pencils*! This set was the first set of nice colored pencils I had ever owned and they are still my absolute favorites! They are creamy and very soft making it very easy to lay down and blend colors. The only problem is that they break very easily because they are so soft but they’re so good I have learned not to mind it. It’s best to use a manual sharpener but I’ve used electric and eight times out of ten it works just fine. I use them to color all of my images, there’s a wealth of colors for you to choose from.

Next to pencils, watercoloring is one of my favorite ways to color! I have quite a few watercolor palettes but this month I used nothing but my Mijello Mission Gold watercolor palette*. The colors in this palette are so vibrant and they blend like a dream. I love using this palette and I enjoy making other colors by mixing ones together. I’ve colored almost every type of thing with this palette and it almost always turns out nicely. Flowers are my favorite to color (in any medium really). The only thing I haven’t done with this palette is people. I know it’s just a matter of mixing colors to get the right colors. Whenever anyone asks me what watercolor palette I would recommend, I always say this palette. It’s my absolute favorite.

That’s it! What did you think of this experimental post, do you like it? Should I do it next month? Let me know! I really hope you enjoyed this post and hopefully found some new products to try.
