Just Us Girls Word Challenge

Hello my crafty friends, thanks for stopping by! Today I’m sharing with you the two cards I created for the Just Us Girls card challenge. This week is a word challenge and the word is ‘Feathers’! I made two cards because I had ideas teeming in my head and I couldn’t pick just one! Let’s start with the simplest one first!

For this card I used a card base made out of Neenah Desert Stormp 100# cardstock. I planned to use Distress Oxide inks and I love how they look on craft paper. I did a rainbow of colors, I used: Candied Apple, Carved Pumpkin, Mustard Seed, Mowed Lawn, Mermaid Lagoon, and Wilted Violet. I used a stamp set that I purchased as an add on to one of the older Hero Arts ‘My Monthly Hero’ kits. I can’t remember the name so I’m calling it the “Spread Your Wings” stamp set, serial number CM245. I took the feather image and stamped the feather six times in rainbow color order. I then took a sentiment from the same stamp set and stamped the sentiment right in the center of the card with Versafine Onyx Black pigment ink. I love this ink for sentiments because it gives such a crisp finish to whatever your stamping.

I love the simplicity of this Clean and Simple one layer card. I love this stamp set especially for encouragement cards for friends and loved ones. Now for the next card!

For my second card I used the ‘Earth Has Magic’ stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. This stamp set was made for this challenge! I cut down a piece of Strathmore Hot Press watercolor paper to A2 card size. I then took the largest feather in the stamp set and positioned it using my MISTI. I like using my MISTI when stamping one watercolor paper, hot or cold press, because I can stamp it two or three times if I don’t get the impression I want during the first go round. I then inked the stamp up with Versamark embossing ink and ran my Inkadinkadoo embossing buddy all over the paper to prevent the embossing powder sticking to where I didn’t want it to go. I was lucky and got a good impression on my first go round. I then took my Ranger Clear Holographic embossing powder and sprinkled it onto the feather and then tapped off the excess. I then heat set it using my Wagner heat tool.

I was inspired by my best friend for the next part. She loves it when I do Color Burst backgrounds. In honor of her, I used the Ken Oliver Color Burst powders in Lemon Yellow, Orchid, and Fuchsia. You can’t really see the yellow in the final product but it’s there, I swear it is. To get this effect, I put the card front with the feather on it into my home made splat box and then I carefully tapped the bottom of each color and sprinkled the color around the card. I then took my Tim Holtz Distress Sprayer and completely saturated the piece. I then went in with a baby wipe and whisked away any ink that had pooled in places on the feather and around the edges.

This is the final card! The sentiment on the card is from the same stamp set I used for card number one. I heat set my paper then wiped it down with my Inkadinkadoo embossing buddy. Then I took the first word, got Versamark ink on it, and stamped it onto the card. Next I took my Ranger Ultra Fine Detail White embossing powder and sprinkled that on top of the word and tapped off the excess but I didn’t heat set it. I then repeated this process twice more for the other two words and then once all of the words had embossing powder on them I heat set it with my heat tool. And again, we have another one layer, clean and simple card! I just noticed that now!

That’s that! Some simple cards that were a ton of fun to create! I would love to see what you create, either for the challenge or in general so leave your link down below so I can check it out!
