Valentine’s Day Card Spotlight

Hello my crafty friends and happy Valentine’s Day (a day early 😁) I figured it would be appropriate to share one of the Valentine’s Day cards I made just so I would have them. I love to make cards for all of the major holiday’s but I still send out store bought ones because sometimes they take me too long. Like Christmas. Oy.

For this card I used the Hero Arts ‘Love Birds’ stamp and cut set. I then cracked out my Mijello Mission Gold watercolors that I purchased from Amazon. I used my Nuvo round watercolor brushes. The birds are parakeets which are really bright birds so I used reds, oranges, yellows, and greens to paint them in. The set also comes with a little branch for the birds to perch on. Except for the birds I didn’t do too much blending of the colors. I then sent it through my die cut machine with the dies on top.

I also took a piece of paper that came in my latest Simon Says Stamp monthly kit and die cut it as well using one of the A2 size stitched die from Art Impressions. Everything cut very cleanly except the branch. I must have laid it onto the block crooked or too straight because the branch didn’t fit the die perfectly. To be honest, that drove me nuts.

Next I used the ‘Love You’ stamp from the stamp set from my Simon Says Stamp card kit and heat embossed it using WOW! Embossing glitter in ‘Turkish Nights’. Looking back on it, if I were to create another like this, I would use a different embossing powder. The ‘Love You’ is very hard to see against the pink background.

This is the final product. Pretty clean and simple but good for a quick Valentine’s Day card. The colors of the birds contrast nicely with the background making them really pop from the busy paper. If I were to do this again, I might attach the branch with the birds to the left hand side and then do a sky background instead of patterned paper.

There we go, easy peasy and pretty pleasy. I’m funny, not, hah. Either way, terrible jokes aside, I hope you enjoyed today’s post and maybe got some inspiration of your own.
