Card Feature: Alcohol Ink

Hello my crafty friends and welcome back to my blog, or if you’re new HELLO! Today I wanted to do a card feature post and I’ll be featuring one of the cards I made yesterday as part of a 10 card set. I will try to link as much as possible. These links are not affiliate links so I make nothing if you click on and purchase from them. I just try to make your shopping easier.

To adhere the sentiment to the front of the card I used Ranger Multi Medium Matte. This is my holy grail of glues, it works really well on small pieces with the needle nose tip making it perfect for precision application. I used my reverse tweezers. The ones I own are from EK Success and I absolutely adore them but there are quite a few brands to choose from. I used my MakeItbyMarko glue holder to keep my glue in prime position so I didn’t have to shake it to get the glue to the tip every time. I took Yupo paper by Ranger and created the card that I am talking about. Below are the colors of alcohol ink I used:

I used Patina, Cloudy Blue, Turquoise, Purple Twilight (not pictured), and Pearl mixative alcohol ink. I got them from various places but nine tenths of my alcohol inks came from Simon Says Stamp. I used the mixative by squirting some onto my work station, taking a small paint brush, and splattering the whole background to give it a little something extra. I didn’t use any of the Alcohol Blending Solution for this pieces which gave it a less translucent look. I used a die from My Favorite Things, which you can see below:

I like this die because it is big enough and wide enough that I can hold each letter with my reverse tweezers and apply the glue. I used Simon Says Stamp white glitter paper to cut the sentiments. I love using Simon’s glitter paper because it is so well made. There is no glitter fall out that I have ever seen and it is made from cardstock so it is thick and sturdy. They have paper that is 8.5″x 11″ or they have 6″x 6″ so you have two sizes to choose from for whichever fits your need.

On the inside I used a ‘Thank You’ stamp from the Simon Says Stamp stamp set. I love the two different fonts because it gives some interest to the statement. I stamped it using my favorite Versafine Onyx Black ink. I like how dark this ink is and how it gives nice clean lines to anything you stamp. It is a pigment ink but it dries quickly unlike regular pigment inks. I’ve even watercolored with this ink! Here is the final product:

I didn’t worry about getting the ink all the way to the edges, so there are a few white spots here and there but I think the work with the cards design. If I’m not counting all 10, it probably would have taken about half and hour to make this one. A lot of that is drying time to be completely honest. I did use a lot of ink so it took the paper a while to dry down completely. I lined up the sentiment on the bottom along the right hand side so that I would be sure that the sentiment was straight. Getting straight lines is something that has always eluded me unless I draw a line with a ruler first.

There you have it! I had a lot of fun making this, and the other, cards. It was nice doing everything at once. I mean, I did all the die cutting at once, all of the alcohol ink backgrounds at once, etc. A simple card with a not so simple look, I love it! Have you played with alcohol inks, what are your favorite colors? I’d love to know so pop a comment down below.
