Puppy Happy Birthday

Hello my crafty friends! How is your week shaping up to be? I’m so excited to share this card with you, almost as excited I was to share the latest card for Card Spotlight Sunday. I love the Top Dog Birthday stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I used my much loved Arteza Real Brush Pens and the Arteza water brushes to color my image. I always have fun with this image, and I hope you like what I’ve done with it this time. Let’s get to it!

I cut a piece of Strathmore Bristol Smooth paper down to 5″ x 3 3/4″ so I could make a patterned background which you’ll see later. I put my puppy stamp and my piece of Bristol into my Misti Stamp Positioning Tool, bringing the card flush against the side but one square up from the bottom. this made it easier to line up the paws and wheels actually against the bottom and not slightly floating above. Since I knew I was going to be watercoloring the image, I stamped it with my Versa Fine Onyx Black ink. I stamped the image twice to get the image as solid and as dark as I wanted.

Here you can see all of the colors of my Arteza real brush pens I used. For me, this isn’t too much 😂 I have found that for these, and anything like these, they work best on Bristol paper. I just can’t get them to blend on watercolor paper (I’ve even made the paper pill!) and if I try to do a little bit on my Neenah Solar Crest paper the same thing happens! So, my suggestion is USE BRISTOL. The picture on the right is an example of one of my favorite things with cardmaking- it always looks bad when you start but give it a few brush strokes or added embellishments and Viola! it’s beautiful! I’m still working on how to keep the color in the lines when watercoloring besides heat embossing. I always color the main image first that way if I get outside of the lines say, into the dog’s harness, I can cover it up when I continue coloring the rest of the image.

I have rediscovered my Memento Dew Drop inks that I’ve had since I started making cards going on four years ago. I love using my Distress Oxides for stamping too, but for some reason today I wanted to use dye inks. I found these and this is what I produced. I used the two confetti stamps in the Top Dog Birthday stamp set to make the background. Now, I’m a rainbow lover so of course I had to use a rainbow of colors to do the background. The colors I used were: Lady Bug, Tangelo, Dandelion, Cottage Ivy, Bahama Blue and Grape Jelly. I love making my own backgrounds. Back in January I did a post about how to make your own background which you can check out here. They were the perfect size for the little stamps. You can see that the center is blank. That is because that’s where the dog image is going to go. I don’t have a picture for the next step but I’ll still tell you. Once the background stamping was done I took one of my large pieces of fun foam and cut it down to 5″x3 3/4″ (the same size as the puppy panel). I then put 1/2″ Scor Tape on the back of the puppy panel AND on the back of the foam panel. I then attached the puppy panel to the foam sheet and then the foam sheet to our stamped background card base. The sentiment on the front is from the Top Dog set. I stamped it in Versa Fine Onyx Black ink and then I heat embossed it with Ranger Holographic clear embossing powder. I also took my Spectrum Noir Sparkle pen in Crystal Clear and I used it on the bows on the packages and on the polka dots on the party hat and the puppy’s collar.

Then for the inside, I took a sentiment from the same set and stamped it in Versa Fine Onyx Black ink. I then took the cluster of stars stamp from the same set and cornered the sentiment using the Cantaloupe Memento Dew Drop ink and then I also used the cupcake and stamped it in the Pear Tart Memento Dew Drop ink. I like to decorate the inside of my cards if it is appropriate and easy on the eyes. So 99.98% of the time, I will do an extra stamp or two to connect it to the front or to the sentiment on the inside or if it’s just really pretty. 😉

Okay, that was a long post. If you’ve made it to the end, bravo and thank you! Do you have this stamp set and do you like it? I’d love to know what you’ve been creating, so be sure to share it down below! Thank you so much for reading and I hope to see you on Thursday! XO❤
