For this weeks ‘Card Spotlight’, I was inspired by the Just Us Girls Challenge #489:
I love rainbows, I just love how they seem to make everyone happy when they see one whether it’s in the sky OR on a piece of paper. I had known about this challenge blog for awhile but was always a little nervous and never entered until now. This image is prompting me to create something I love to create. Not to say I hate creating anything, I don’t, but I’d like to start where I’m comfortable and move up the ladder from there. All of this to say, I made this card for the challenge and I am really pleased with how it turned out. I hope you enjoy it too!
When I saw the stripes in the post, I was immediately inspired to use a stamp set that has gone unused (until now) in my stamp collection, the Simon Says Stamp ‘Basic Stripes’ stamp set. I really liked the look of the stamp that contained three thin stripes. These stamps aren’t long enough to reach corner to corner, I also didn’t have an acrylic block long enough for the whole stamp, which prompted me to position the stripes like I did. I (strangely) wanted some white space on this card and I’m glad that I did. I used Memento Tear Drop inks for the rainbow because I don’t have any other full rainbow set of dye inks yet. I always need to add a bit of sparkle to my cards which is where the Studio Katia Majestic Fusion sequin mix came into play. I believe the ‘Hello’ die came from a set I got a long time ago from the Stamps of Life. The sentiment on the black strip of paper is from CZ Designs Simple Sentiments 02 stamp set. The paper I used for both of those pieces are ones I got from Michaels as parts of larger packs of 80# papers. For the die cut, I layered three pieces of 110# Neenah Solar White Crest paper behind the black word which gave a lot of dimension. I used Ken Oliver Stick It adhesive on the back of all of the die cuts making applying them a breeze.
Again, I used that CZ Designs sentiment set again for the inside of the card. I also took three different hearts from various stamp sets I have and stamped them in red, orange, and yellow. I wanted the inside to be clean but with a bit of decoration.
I wanted to make an encouragement card and I’m really happy with how it turned out. I worried that the ‘Hello’ would throw off the encouraging aspect but looking at it as a whole made me happy with my decision. I hope you like this card as much as I do! Have a great extra day off and I’ll see you on Tuesday. XO❤
