Step by Step Tuesday: Sliced Card

Hello my crafty friends! I was messing around last night trying to figure out what to do for today. I had made some ink smoosh backgrounds for this week’s ‘Technique Thursday’ and I figured why not make a cool card out of them now instead of later. I started to cut the pieces up and this is what I came up with! I hope you enjoy.

The ink smooshed pieces were A2 size, 4.25″ x 5.5″. I used my Fiskars wire guide trimmer and cut the smoosh piece into different sized strips. I am using a top folding A2 card made with Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110lb cardstock. Then I brought out my Birthday with Sizzix stamp set that I purchased a long time ago from Stamps of Life.

I stamped the sentiment in my MISTI so it would be lined up perfectly and then I stamped it using Versafine Onyx Black Ink. I then took the piece out and poured some of my WOW! Clear Embossing Powder onto the sentiment and heat embossed it to give the sentiment a nice shine. I then started lining up my strips going left to right. The first two I did not trim down or put foam tape behind them. I wanted there to be multiple levels to this card. To attach the first two pieces I used 1/8″ Scor-Tape because of its strength. I then took the last three strips and measured them at different intervals and started cutting the apart so I had a top half and a bottom half. I then numbered each piece so I would remember which half went with which. On the top and bottom they were all different lengths to give a bit of variation. I used the big roll of the 3M foam tape.

To make sure each strip would line up correctly I used my T-Ruler that I got at Michaels for a few bucks. Not all of the strips fit perfectly onto the card because I was leaving gaps between each strip so when I got to the last strip on the right edge I had to cut off the edge to get rid of the overhang. Once the strips were down where I wanted and were holding, I moved on to embellishments. If you’ve been following me you would know that my favorite brand of gems and jewels is from a UK store called Lucy’s Cards and these are Little Things from Lucy’s Cards. I used the Clear Iridescent mix and the Shimmering Pool mix. I did restrain myself a lot because I loooove using jewels!

The gap on the far left was bothering me for some reason and so I pulled out these Dazzles by Hot Off The Press in Silver Jewels. I had bought these two years ago at the Scrapbook Expo but I never seemed to have just the right project to use them on. This project called for them. It’s basically strip stickers that look glittered but no glitter comes off on your hands, WIN!

For the inside sentiment I used a stamp from the Simon Says Stamp ‘Lots of Thanks’ set and I stamped it using my Versafine again. Then I took this bundle of flowers from an unknown set and I stamped them in Ranger Distress Oxide ink in ‘Seedless Preserves’. I try to always put something on the inside along with a sentiment. It adds a special touch.

That’s it for this week’s Step by Step! I would love to know what you think or if you have any suggestions, I’m all ears. I’m thanking all of you from the bottom of my heart for your support, it means the world to me. I’ve re-opened my Etsy shop, CardstockQueen. It would mean so much if you would go over and give it a look and maybe please share it with your friends and family and give the shop a follow? If you do, I’m thanking you so much in advance ❤ XO
